I like to imagine Ascoli suspended in a timeless atmosphere.

In this majolica the outer border, with the white rosehip and red berries, echoes the tones of the travertine and matches the clothing of the two wayfarers approaching the city gates.

«’Rrète a li mierghie» is the popular name attributed in the local dialect of Ascoli, to the ancient Via delle Stelle, which runs along the Tronto River starting from the Porta di Solestà. In creating this plate that depicts one of the most evocative streets of my hometown, I wanted to convey the feelings I experience when I’m walking there in the Spring.

I love to imagine Ascoli transfigured in a dreamlike and timeless atmosphere.

For the realization of this plate, I drew a preliminary study sketch of the characters. In fact, I don’t like majolica that depicts stereotyped subjects in static postures and always with the same expressions. Of course the sketch serves only as a guide, because the decoration of this plate, as in all my majolica, is done entirely freehand.
