This panel is a tribute to the teeming life that animates every little corner of the countryside… it is suitable for indoor spaces as well as outdoor settings such as terraces or verandahs.

The days are getting longer… when the sun is shining, the Spring air begins to be felt. So I wanted to create a vase decorated with Spring flowers that express all the joy of this season.

Butterflies – Monarch, Macao, Vanessa (Common Vanessa, Thistle Vanessa, and the flamboyant Aglais Io), Junonia, Apatura Ilia, Aglais… in this large lamp base you find all the beautiful butterflies that nature gifts us with, overlapping each other.

A cloud of gold dust – as if scattered by their wings – illuminates all, making everything glitter.

For the creation of this tile I took inspiration from a gouache of XVII-century painter Giovanna Garzoni. Just in that period, still-life painting became a very popular genre. Earlier painting was affected by an anthropocentric philosophical conception, whereby non-human subjects (whether they may be animals, plants or mere things) appeared only on the margins of the paintings.

The decline of this ideology was due to various factors such as scientific discoveries, the secularization of society and the triumph of the bourgeoisie. The latter wanted to show its opulence through the display of its goods. In this context we should see the flourishing of paintings that showed very realistic, detailed and luxuriant still-lifes, such as to arouse in the spectator the desire to grab the fruits to eat them. Giovanna Garzoni was one of the main interpreters of this trend.

To those who go hiking in the woods it might have happened, sometimes, to receive a wonderful gift: to happen upon and surprise some wild creature who studies us, for a moment, to understand if we present a threat for them, and then moves on… it is just a fleeting moment, but it’s dense with an extraordinary emotion.

In this majolica wall clock I wanted to evoke a summer wheat field, like those that are starting to be seen again since there are farmers who grow wheat without using pesticides… then the poppies and even a few cornflowers are blooming once again, adding color and cheer. Sometimes you might even have some marvelous sightings and get a glimpse of a shy hare, a wren, or some vanessa butterfly.

I chose motifs that bring out the full chromatic richness that nature offers us. This wall clock brightens the wall with a decoration of vibrant and festive butterflies.

I wanted to make a vase that would be an explosion of color, capable of bringing a breath of cheerful joy into any setting.

For those who know how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, the sight of a goldfinch in the snow is one of the delights of winter.

For this amphora I imagined, on one side, a riot of goldfinches fluttering among their most favored flowers, namely those of thistle.

On the other side of the vase, I created a playful image of goldfinches lazily perched on a peach branch.

I love this season whether it may gift us with bright, clear days, with sharp contours and vivid colors, or misty days when everything, if we walk deeper into the woods, looks hazy and shrouded in mystery.

In this tile (44 cm x 30 cm) depicting a glimpse of the Amalfi coast, I tried to reproduce the effect of a watercolor painting, particularly suggestive in the play of shadows and lights of the path.

My latest work is a panel suitable for outdoor settings (as in this case) such as terraces and verandas, as well as indoors, such as in kitchens, heating stoves, fireplaces, etc.

For the realization of this vase, I referred to the beautiful watercolors of the American naturalist Luis Agassiz Fuertes. I wanted to bring into the majolica not only the incredible vivacity of colors of the tropical bird’s plumage , but also its alert curiosity of the surrounding world.
